My next primitive rug



Throwing out color ideas 

Today I finished transferring my pattern from a pattern from Little Quilts.I used the woman and child and stick flower but added my own thoughts to make it personal. I just liked the simplicity of this pattern and yet I have a bunch of decisions to make. I added chickens from old cookie cutters,I put eggs in the corners and added words from a place in Washington I visited and good book I read last year.

I have been looking at my rug books and trying hard to make up my mind what color for the woman and child's clothes.I usually spread out my books and rug hooking magazines and study colors that I like in other hooked rugs I think I like Old orange and blues. Next today I was gathering up my wools to find the perfect wool colors to make it look old. My stash is getting more and more depleted so it looks like I am going to have to get out my dye book .My hope is try hard to make it look like an old rug. What a lot of thought goes in before I even hook one loop. Am I the only slow rug hooker when getting started on a new rug?

What's your distractions while Rug Hooking?

                                                                   My distraction



Now I know I am not the only one who is distracted while hooking. First of all I have the greatest intentions of hooking. I am hooking away on my rug either on the couch or my bed when Maulie decides that she has had enough. Last night I was sitting on my bed when she came over and put her paw and her shitzu body on my rug . I had to laugh at her but I still needed to keep working. Have you ever tried to pet a dogs belly and hook at the same time? Nothing gets done! So I had to stop give her some attention and yell to hubby to play with Maulie. It’s the same with the computer when she has had enough she will start to beg and want to sit on my lap. Here is how my Pray for Moo Cow rug is progressing even with my Maulie distractions.

Rug hooking a Primitive Cow

When is a Cow just a cow.........




I am not sure if I am starting to lose it or not but I rug hooked away on a cow for hours trying to get the look  just right.

I could have milked a cow quicker then I was at finding the right colors until I just looked on line at images of Cows and went back to nature the best artist .I had brought out a rug after Christmas to just  finish it. I had been trying to design a rug with a primitive look last year.That was a good idea to just put it away because now I am starting to love it all over again.I can't draw so I just use my old patterns from quilting and just mix it up til I get the look I wanted. I love simplicity and animals and folk art so I want to make rugs that reflect that .I had made the Cow an interesting color but it just wasn’t working. So I ripped out the color and laid it on the floor and just kept staring and staring at it. So here is how my little cow turned out.

So ignore all the scribbling lines because I have been redoing this rug so much  Ahhh! but I want you to see how I am progressing and how even if it's called primitive there is alot of thought in just a simple cow.  Can you see how the basket gets lost in the background time to rip again and redo .

My new name this week is rip and redo. Lol.
