Pennsylvania Rug hooker Georgia

Tuesday was a real big treat we had a visitor that I had heard about for years.  Janet had raved how well she hooked and how pretty her rug were Janets sister in law Georgia was all that plus nice. Janet's sister in law  belongs to a rug hooking group called The old barn rug hooking guild in Tunkhannock Pennsylvania.It is  ATHA Chapter 102. I usually hear about what her guild is doing with emails that Georgia sends out to Janet and I .We all were in awe at how big her rugs were and her color choices were perfect. It was a delight on Tuesday to see the work of this prolific rug hooker.This guild sounds like a very active group and the way Georgia described their hook in's they sound like so much fun! If Georgia is an example of her guild Wow! I am impressed.

Our group meets every two weeks at the Country Loft and usually somebody has something to share
of what they have done besides rug hooking.There are so many conversations going on it's almost  funny. You should have seen us today we were all talking a mile a minute. There was so much to catch up on in the two weeks since we saw each other.Two of the ladies in our group are going to Lancaster Pennsylvania Donna and Karen. They are taking some rug hooking classes.Lucky Gals!

Last night I was looking up at the moon when I was caught up in the beauty of the night sky.What a pretty site. Our rug hooking group was meeting Janet’s sister in law who was visiting from Pennsylvania on Tuesday. Well I could hardly wait or sleep.I was so looking forward to meeting Georgia and seeing her beautiful rugs. Here is a sneak peek of today... A pumpkin story for fall

Mishaps at cooking or My Oh My Pumpkin Pie!

This week I read about Kim a fellow bloggers mishap of cooking her first turkey.  Well I remember yes way back when we lived in Wyoming in the 70’s and the first time I made a pumpkin pie from scratch. One of the nice things I can say about the home we lived in was the great soil and wonderful lilac bushes. The first year we lived there the grocery stores ran out of pumpkins so I was determined to grow a pumpkin so I would not be upset in the fall. Fall isn’t Fall without a pumpkin or two. I ended up with thirteen pumpkins and that was with a little plot of a garden! I was so happy so come October before the frost got my beautiful  pumpkins

 It can't even sit up!

 I picked them all . Now the exciting part making a pumpkin pie from scratch  I was going to use no can for my pie!   So I cut open my pumpkin and started scooping the bottom of the pumpkin thinking to myself  it doesn’t look like this when I buy a can of pumpkin at the store.So another pumpkin was opened up scooped and still another. I think I went thru most of my pumpkins.(I did make the pie crust from scratch) I looked at the pie pan and just thought well it’s going to rise when I put it in the oven. Oh yes I was that naive. I had been working all my young married life and didn’t have a clue how to bake anything unless it was out of a box.


So as I baked my pumpkin pie I was little disappointed when it was done and it had not risen. I told my husband and one of my new friends in Wyoming and they both couldn’t believe how I had made this pumpkin pie using pumpkin guts essentially. Everybody had a laugh and I was a little embarrassed so today I am harvesting my one pumpkin and thinking back at a young new mother who once had a garden with thirteen beautiful pumpkins and this year this is as good as I got for a pumpkin. Happy Sunday

An evening of Hobo Quilts at The Country Loft in California

                        Hobo quilt class was as usual full of nice ladies and lots of laughter. Our teacher is so sweet and makes our class a fun enjoyable evening. The storm arrived but it was well worth driving in the rain. I have never had as much fun in quilt,rug hooking or doll classes as the  Country Loft. The added bonus of a class is the knowledge you can get from your fellow classmates.There is always an interesting quilt or two that  someone brings in to share with the group.This months class we had a demonstration on applique.
 The Hobo Quilt  book is good but there are parts that are confusing when assembling the blocks.I was getting a little confused with the rulers while I was cutting yesterday and so I went to a friends house and  had her watch me cut my blocks. Linda saw where I was getting mixed up turning my fabric. Linda gave me a refresher course on snowball she watched me as I made two snowballs for the wheels.I guess the book expects you to know what technique to use.Wow just the little she showed me made my cutting a lot easier!
The book is confusing when you cut the sizes.Be careful to notice sometimes its a length measurement first.I am glad Linda could see where I was getting confused at.

It’s been sixteen years since my wonderful dad passed away. My father was my hero and I miss him every day. Sometimes people have reminders of their loved ones. Mine is birds and I felt like my dad was looking down on me today when I went outside feeling melancholy and there was this bird looking at me. My Dad loved photography and for some reason this makes me smile.

It's the middle of the week and were going to have a storm in California

I love this time of year . Were going to have a winter storm. Of course I have my Hobo quilt class tonight and I will be sure and take pictures. Maulie and Morris and I went into the back yard to try to take a picture of the cloudy sky. The photo really doesn’t show the gathering clouds. Poor Maulie got a sticker that went into her paw so I had to pull it out and now she is being really quiet. Morris my Big boy he followed me as I took pictures around the back yard.

I confess I am a bit of a bookworm

I discovered a new author to read!



I am like the book Where’s Waldo? I have been busy this week with housework, making hobo quilt squares. I was also  planting bushes for butterflies going to coffee with a neighbor and today going to Oktoberfest with my cousin. The Oktoberfest in La Mesa was pretty boring it looked like one big commercial booth one after another. Plus we were there early so there was no music . We quickly saw all the booths and then we went to lunch. We weren't done yet after that we stopped at Barnes and noble and drove up this huge hill to look at model homes for fun! Not my style but interesting to see how they're decorated.



.But I had a great discovery this week I found an author that I love!

Laurie R. King and the book The Beekeepers apprentice

I have always loved reading. I think if you’re a reader you can transport yourself to a million places expand your knowledge and experience people’s lives quite different then your own. I am so happy and thankful that I love to read so when I found an author that combined my favorite detective Sherlock Holmes and a new take on his life I was intriqued. Mary Russell is a young apprentice girl of fifteen who becomes Sherlock Holmes Watson. This book has been around for a while but I started reading it and I am mesmerized how someone can write such an interesting tale. The best part it’s a series so I can go back for more Sherlock Holmes and Mary Russell. There is nothing more satisfying then picking up a book at a library or bookstore and it grabbing your full attention from the very beginning. I propose that there are different types of readers in the world. Readers that read a couple of chapters don’t enjoy the book but finish it anyhow because they started it. Or readers that by the second chapter are bored to death can't quite get into the story so toss it to the side and don’t waste their time. That would be me unfortunately.I wonder if I missing out on some great book because of my way of reading? Have you ever read a book that was slow to start and you were glad you didn't give up on the storyline?

I took some photos of my Hobo Quilts I have been working on and some JoAnn stitcheries I did last year. I have to find a place to hang them. I am running out of walls. Lol
